Jeremy Pruitt, Kellie Harper and Rick Barnes all recapping Tennessee Vols events from Wednesday lead our Volunteers news for Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019.

Talk about an eventful day for the Tennessee Vols! Men’s and women’s basketball both had games, and football had a major recruiting date. Unfortunately for UT, only one of those ended up being good news.

At least our morning update on Rocky Top leads with that good news. We’ll be discussing the first day of the early signing period in football and what Jeremy Pruitt had to say about that. It was a big deal and bodes well for the Vols’ future.

Men’s and women’s basketball teams, though, both suffered brutal road losses, and we do have to cover those as well. Also, we have a diving event to recap. So there is plenty of news this morning as Christmas is less than a week away.

On Wednesday, the Tennessee Vols football team signed all but two of its commitments, and those two were three-stars. Nobody decommitted or flipped. They flipped one commitment and then brought in four others, including two four-stars. So it was a huge day. Here’s a bit of what Jeremy Pruitt had to say about it.

"“We have 21 signees and this has been a long road. We started recruiting a lot of these guys two years out and built a lot of relationships with them. I think it says a lot about the men on our staff.”"

Rick Barnes recaps loss at Cincinnati – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

The No. 21 ranked Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team lost their second straight game on Wednesday, falling on the road to the Cincinnati Bearcats 78-66. With the loss, UT fell to 7-3 on the year while Cincinnati improved to 7-4. Here’s a bit of what Rick Barnes said about the game.

"“It was awful. And I’m really disappointed in our defensive breakdown. And the way we did it. It came from our older guys too, which is the most disappointing thing. When you go on the road for the first time, in a true road game like this, you expect your older guys to really be the ones to lead the way. And we didn’t have any leadership, in terms of what we were trying to get done.”"

Kellie Harper recaps loss at Stanford – UTSports

In their first road trip in over a month, the No. 23/24 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols suffered a brutal 78-51 loss to the No. 1 ranked Stanford Cardinal. The loss dropped them to 8-2 while Stanford improved to 10-0. Here’s a bit of what Kellie Harper said about the game.

"“I think there are some great opportunities for us right here to learn and to maybe mature a little bit. I think there are areas that we need to grow as a team. We’ve known that.”"
