Marquez Callaway 39-yard Hail Mary touchdown reception

Tennessee Volunteers win 24-7

Hail Mary touchdown passes always make the list, and this one is no different. Despite a rough first year under Jeremy Pruitt, Tennessee football had enjoyed some success. About a month after beating the Auburn Tigers, this was one of those games to bring them more success. The Kentucky Wildcats were heading to town in the midst of their best season in decades.

However, in another great defensive coaching game by Pruitt, the Vols were up 3-0 late in the first half. They then scored a touchdown and figured to go into halftime up 10-0, but after getting the ball back one more time, Pruitt was looking to go for a field goal. Well, the flow of the offense put other things on the table.

With six seconds left and on the UK 39, a quick pass by Jarrett Guarantano could get them a reasonable shot at a field goal. But on the snap, he had to spend some time avoiding pressure. Knowing that ended any chance at a quick field goal, Guarantano decided to take a shot. downfield. That decision turned out to be a great one with the benefit of hindsight.

As time expired, Guarantano chucked it into an area with three UT receivers and three Kentucky defenders. Marquez Callaway out-jumped everybody to come away with the touchdown, which put the Vols in front 17-0. That play put them in complete control in the second half, allowing them to win 24-0. And it was a memorable one at that.
