Tennessee football: How former Vols fared in NFL wild-card round
The Houston Texans advanced, and Zach Fulton actually is a very successful former Tennessee football player in the NFL. However, his play on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills was disastrous, and he was almost a huge reason for the Texans losing. He is certainly a huge reason for them falling behind 16-0 and needing to come back.
Fulton was part of an offensive line that gave up seven sacks on the day and got abused in the middle. The guard had trouble all night protecting Deshaun Watson, and while Watson made a lot of amazing plays individually, it wasn’t with the help of his line. His entire support system up front was beyond disastrous.
Watson’s most notable play of the game was staying up in overtime after two guys hit him to make a throw that set up the game-winning field goal. However, he was hit by two guys because of how poor the protection was, and Fulton was part of that.
Now, to be fair, Ed Oliver was the main guy he went up against, and Oliver didn’t have any sacks or tackles for a loss. But Oliver was the guy who helped get a major push in the middle, and he did have four tackles, so there’s no way to ignore the fact that he made an impact, and Fulton, despite advancing, struggled. So he’s last on this list.
