Coming off their first SEC win, Tennessee basketball returns home for a matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Here is our preview for the Volunteers.

After getting back on track with a win at the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday, Tennessee basketball will look to move above .500 in SEC play in an afternoon home matchup Saturday. The Vols have a key conference home game against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

With a 9-5 record and 1-1 SEC record, Rick Barnes’s team won its first game without Lamonte Turner when it beat Mizzou, and it was Santiago Vescovi’s second game playing with the program. That win also ended a skid in which UT had lost four of five games dating back to its loss to the Memphis Tigers back in December.

Should the Vols win on Saturday, it would be their first multi-game winning streak since they won two straight over the VCU Rams and then the Florida A&M Rattlers. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s matchup.

Three years removed from its Final Four appearance and under eighth-year head coach Frank Martin, South Carolina is struggling a bit this season. They come in with an 8-6 record and lost their only SEC game earlier this week, falling at home to the Florida Gators 81-68.

The Gamecocks have had some success this year, though, as they did upset the Virginia Cavaliers earlier in the season. So despite their issues, they can be dangerous, and that’s something Tennessee basketball has to take into account.

After all, the Vols still haven’t won a home SEC game, and three of their four losses during that skid we discussed above were at home. So this is a big matchup for them. After this, they have two-game SEC road trip next week, facing the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens on Wednesday and the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville on Saturday.
