Lots of bad moments kept Tennessee football’s season from being even better. Here are the 10 most heartbreaking plays for the Volunteers in 2019.

The turnaround is what everybody will remember when it comes to Jeremy Pruitt’s second season as head coach of the Tennessee football program. When you go from 0-2 to 1-4 to 2-5 and then finish 8-5, though, that’s what people should remember.

However, it’s still hard not to think about the fact that the Vols could easily have been 10-3. And if a few things had gone differently, they could have been a very respectable 10-3 while coming close to 11-2 in a couple of games.

Lots of heartbreak cost Tennessee football in their losses to the Georgia State Panthers and BYU Cougars. Other plays kept them out of the game with the Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide and turned the Georgia Bulldogs loss into embarrassment.

In this post, we’re going to take a look at those heartbreaking plays that happened throughout the season and rank them by just how frustrating they were for Vol Nation. Hey, you may not want to remember these as a UT fan, but it will certainly help you appreciate how things began to turn around in the middle of October.

If these plays don’t happen, the Vols likely lose to Florida and Georgia by two scores each and Alabama by one score, and they beat Georgia State and BYU. At that point, you’re talking about a potential top 15 finish for these kids.

Honestly, this is somewhat of a positive for Rocky Top. It lets you know just how good this team could have been and what’s in store for the program in the future if Pruitt keeps up what he is doing with the program.

So just howe close were they? What were the plays that changed the early part of this season? Let’s go back and look at them. These are the 10 most heartbreaking plays suffered by Tennessee football during 2019.
