Tennessee football 2019 recap: Top 10 Vols players of the season
This was a possibility early in the season, but it became a reality very quickly once Wanya Morris settled in at left tackle. An early enrollee to Tennessee football’s program last year, Morris and Darnell Wright were the star recruits in the Vols’ 2019 class, and both were on the offensive line. While Wright had more hype across the board, Morris stood out more this year.
By the third game of the season, Jim Chaney moved Morris over to left tackle. Immediately, he became a star player, and he was a catalyst for the dramatic improvement seen on UT’s offensive line this year after being historically bad in 2018. Some of the biggest issues in the first two games were the fact that Morris was not starting at left tackle.
As a true freshman, Morris earned Freshman All-SEC and Freshman All-American honors with his play, and he has given Jeremy Pruitt something to work with up front for the future. The guy was one of the most consistently reliable players on the team all year, and he’s one of the building blocks for the program’s future.
Now, Morris is a unique case because he never earned a helmet sticker this year from us for his performance. But on the line, consistency and reliability matter more than standing out, and he clearly proved those things. So he still earned his way onto this list.
