Tennessee football 2019 recap: Top 10 Vols players of the season
Although he wasn’t the No. 1 wideout, Marquez Callaway was the most proven overall playmaker for Tennessee football coming into this season. Well, he accepted his role as the No. 2 wideout and found other ways to be effective, making him one of the most important players on the Vols throughout the year.
Callaway had the punt return touchdown to give UT its first lead over the South Carolina Gamecocks, and then he had the touchdown that effectively sealed the deal, and that was key, as it was the first win that got their season-ending streak going. But that’s not all Callaway did as a playmaker for the Vols in 2019.
Remember, the guy had 30 receptions for 635 yards and six touchdowns, 12 punt returns for 154 yards and a touchdown and four kickoff returns for 37 yards. He went for a touchdown and over 100 yards receiving against the Georgia Bulldogs, Kentucky Wildcats and Missouri Tigers along with South Carolina.
Simply put, Callaway knew how to come up huge for Rocky Top, and he did it on a consistent basis throughout the season. As a result, he was one of the most valuable players for the Vols, and like so many players on this list, his senior campaign represented a strong finish to his career in orange. That’s to be commended, and it’s why he made it so high up on this list.
