Coming off a loss at the Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee basketball travels to Nashville to face the Vandy Commodores. Here is our preview for the Volunteers.

With a completely different team than the one that started the season, Tennessee basketball is now trying to find its new identity in the heat of SEC play. That hit reality earlier this week, as they lost by 17 on the road to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Now, they have another road game in a trip to Nashville to face the Vanderbilt Commodores, where they have always struggled. At 10-6 and 2-2 in the SEC, they’ll be looking to avoid falling below .500 in conference play.

Rick Barnes is doing that while trying to incorporate seven-foot transfer center Uros Plavsic, who just played his first game Wednesday, into the rotation while continuing to adjust to life with Santiago Vescovi and life without Lamonte Turner. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s matchup.

Under first-year coach Jerry Stackhouse, Vanderbilt has an 8-8 record. Despite being 0-3 in the SEC, they have shown considerable improvement over their 9-23 record that they had last year under Bryce Drew. Still, they’ll be desperately looking for their first SEC win against their hated in-state rival on Saturday.

It’s worth remembering that despite how bad they were last year, Vanderbilt almost spoiled Tennessee basketball’s second entry into the No. 1 spot in school history last year. The Vols needed overtime and a historic night from Grant Williams to get the win in Nashville.

That may be in the back of some players’ heads in this one. With Jordan Bowden and Yves Pons both suffering through dramatic shooting slumps, it could be even more difficult. Simply put, UT has to take this game seriously. Up next for the Vols after this game will be a Tuesday night home matchup with the Ole Miss Rebels.
