Rick Barnes previewing Tennessee Vols basketball’s upcoming game against the Jayhawks leads our Volunteers news for Friday, Jan. 24, 2020.

Happy Friday! We’ve got one week left before already finishing the first month of the new decade, which is insane to think about. Even crazier, the Tennessee Vols news never stops hitting, but it actually does have a break from football for a day.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with two men’s basketball stories. One involves a preview ahead of a major matchup in the SEC vs. Big 12 showdown. The other deals with a recruit for next year receiving another honor.

It’s not all good news, though, as we continue our recap of a brutal Lady Vols loss from Thursday night. We close things out by previewing a major upcoming women’s tennis event as well. But let’s start with the basketball stories.

Ahead of Kansas, Rick Barnes speaks to media – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

On Saturday, the 12-6 Tennessee Vols men’s basketball program will visit the No. 3 ranked Kansas Jayhawks, who are 15-3. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET on ESPN, and this is the first game with Kansas’s two backup forwards, Silvio De Sousa and David McCormack, suspended due to that brawl with the Kansas State Wildcats. Here’s a bit of what Rick Barnes said about the game.

"“I think it will be a great test for us in the fact you’re talking about one of the top five teams in the country. It’s a team that can play multiple ways. They’re not afraid to go with a small lineup, which we think we will see quite a bit of that Saturday.”"
