Coming off their loss at UConn, the Tennessee Lady Vols resume SEC play against the LSU Tigers. Here is our women’s basketball Volunteers preview.

After a 60-45 loss at the UConn Huskies in a rivalry renewal that generated tons of headlines, the Tennessee Lady Vols are back at home Sunday afternoon. Kellie Harper’s first team returns to facing SEC opponents in the process.

Heading into town are the LSU Tigers, led by former Lady Vol guard Nikki Fargas, who is in her ninth year with the program. Ranked No. 23 in the nation, UT is tied for second in the SEC with a 15-4 record overall and 5-1 league record.

Sharing their conference record are the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and the South Carolina Gamecocks lead the league at 6-0 in the conference. However, Rocky Top needs to win Sunday to maintain that standing. Here is all the information you need for the Tennessee Lady Vols matchup.

LSU Tigers at No. 23 Tennessee Lady Volunteers

Where: Thompson-Boling Arena; Knoxville, Tenn.

With a 14-4 record and 4-2 SEC record, LSU has really built off last year’s team that went 16-13. They could start threatening in the standings as well if they win in Knoxville Sunday, and Fargas’ kids will be looking to do just that.

As a result, Harper and co. can’t take this team lightly. This is the first in a string of tests coming up, as over the next two and a half weeks they’ll also face South Carolina and Mississippi State, and they will travel to LSU. The only lesser team they’ll be playing in this run is the Vanderbilt Commodores, which is after this game, and that one’s on the road.

Simply put, the Tennessee Lady Vols have a crucial run coming up to prove exactly where they stand. UConn was a great first test this past weekend, but now this young team has many more important games on the horizon. It starts with this game.
