Former Tennessee Vols punter Dustin Colquitt winning a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs leads our Volunteers news for Monday, Feb. 3, 2020.

Football season is in the books. With the Super Bowl over, the Tennessee Vols and the pros are now about to enter the offseason. Of course, the XFL is set to start next week, but we’re still holding out to see just how successful that league is.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with a former Vol getting an ever-elusive ring in the Super Bowl. Obviously, on the Monday after, we will have to lead with a bit of Super Bowl coverage the same way everybody else is this morning.

There is plenty of other news as well, though, including a former UT football coach landing a head coaching job and continuing on our recaps of bad men’s and women’s basketball losses. Swimming and diving, track and field and men’s tennis have things for us to recap as well. But let’s start with the Super Bowl coverage.

UT’s record dropped to 12-9 and 4-4 in league play, and MSU improved to 14-7 and 5-3. Josiah-Jordan James did not play due to injury, and Rick Barnes said he’s day-to-day. Here’s a bit of what else he said.

"“The second half, the just dominated us inside. We didn’t have an answer for it and that’s what’s frustrating. Got to give them credit for it.”"

The No. 22 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols fell to 17-5 and 7-2 in SEC play with a 69-48 loss on the road to the No. 1/2 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. Here is a bit of what Kellie Harper said about the loss.

"“That’s a really good basketball team we played today. They looked really good on film, played with great poise, yet they were very aggressive on both ends of the court and on the boards.”"
