1. The class will just miss the top 10.

For the fifth straight year, Tennessee football will fail to have a recruiting class in the top 10. Now, to be fair, the last two top 10 classes did not pan out at all. Those were the top five classes Butch Jones secured in 2014 and 2015. To be fair, though, they likely didn’t pan out because Jones was the one involved with developing them. Many of them thrived their one year under Jeremy Pruitt.

Anyway, the Vols currently have the No. 11 ranked recruiting class on Rivals. If, as we predict, they only get a four-star and a three-star added to that class on National Signing Day, it won’t be enough for them to get into the top 10. After all, plenty of other elite teams will pickup a splash recruit or two as well, so if anything, that could result in the Vols falling a bit.

Now, if five-star running back Zachary Evans does commit, despite not signing, UT could end up with a top 10 class. And if that ever does happen, him committing to the Vols will retroactively put them back in the top 10. However, because we are also predicting on here that Evans won’t commit, it’s pretty clear that Pruitt doesn’t have enough to reach the top 10 on Wednesday.

The only chance Pruitt has to get a top 10 class is to flip a couple of commitments we don’t know about yet. After all, we predicted Dee Beckwith to be the only open commitment to UT, and Malachi Wideman is the only player we named who could flip. If he has a trick up his sleeve, we haven’t seen it yet. And if we don’t see it, this class will not make the top 10 Wednesday.
