1. Wideout

Marquez Callaway and Jauan Jennings are gone. Josh Palmer is the only proven returner in this role, and he will be a senior. That means Ramel Keyton is the only guy who will be on Tennessee football’s roster past 2020 that the Vols can rely on to be a go-to wideout. And it also means Jeremy Pruitt needs a ton of help here for the future.

This is one area, however, where the Vols are putting a heavy focus on for National Signing Day. Three-star athlete Dee Beckwith is the one player most likely to commit to them, and they are also looking to flip four-star Florida State Seminoles commitment Malachi Wideman. Beckwith is 6’5″ 215 pounds, bringing a great size to the position. Wideman is 6’5″ 190 pounds.

Simply put, both players would fit the bill of wideouts UT desperately needs. Of course, Jeremy Pruitt did secure commitments from four-star wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who is 6’2″, in the Vols’ 2020 class. But they clearly need lots more help, as two wideouts set for the long-term future is nowhere near enough when you don’t know how guys will work out.

Transfers Velus Jones Jr. and Miles Jones will both be seniors in 2020 anyway, and they along with four-star commitment Jimmy Calloway are all more slot receivers anyway, an area where Jim Chaney needed more help to run his schemes. He clearly updated there, but the Vols have got to get more help among wideouts, and National Signing Day could be where that happens.
