Tennessee football: Vols 2020 recruiting class by the numbers
Number of early enrollees: Four
This is a big deal in terms of which players will have the upper hand over other young guys heading into the fall. Last year, it was very clear that despite Darnell Wright being more highly-touted than Wanya Morris on the offensive line, Morris was better-prepared to go into the season because he was an early enrollee.
There are four early enrollees for Tennessee football’s class this year, which is an unusually small number. Five-star quarterback Harrison Bailey, four-star defensive lineman Dominic Bailey, four-star offensive lineman Cooper Mays and three-star athlete Jimmy Holliday were those enrollees. All of them stand to benefit.
Mays is looking to play center, where Jeremy Pruitt clearly needs depth behind Brandon Kennedy, so this is a huge plus for him. It’s always beneficial to get an athlete in early in order to see where they fit in, and at 6’1″ 180 pounds, Holliday will likely move around a good bit.
The same is true of a quarterback. With Harrison Bailey being a five-star and an early enrollee, he could really make a push on the depth chart. Dominic Bailey will stand to benefit as well, but defensive line is so deep this year it likely won’t matter.
Still, Jeremy Pruitt has three early enrollees he can really work with and get acclimated to his system ahead of time who could potentially make an early impact. All four stand to benefit as well, so this is a big help for Rocky Top going forward.
