Tennessee football: Vols 2020 recruiting class by the numbers
Players by star-rating (Based on Rivals)
Five-stars: 1
Four-stars: 13
Three-stars: 8
Two-stars: 1
Everybody gets the most excited about this. How did Tennessee football get a top 10 class? Well, they secured a five-star, as you can see. And that five-star, Harrison Bailey, plays the most important position, quarterback. Add in the fact that Bailey is an early enrollee, and Jeremy Pruitt could not have asked for a better five-star commitment if he could only choose one.
Of course, if running back Zachary Evans commits, that would be two five-stars. But we’re sticking with what the Vols have right now in this post. Anyway, the other big boost is 13 four-stars. Last year, the Vols did have a five-star among their 19 commitments, but they only had 12 four-stars. That one extra four-star boosted them from a top 12 class to a top 10 class.
One caveat is that on Rivals, Will Albright is a two-star, and nobody in last year’s class was a two-star. Because of that, the average star rating is the same over the past two years. But again, then we have to factor in the transfers, which provide a real boost to Pruitt’s class.
Simply put, Tennessee football went for quality as well as quantity, at least on paper. We don’t know how everything is going to work out, but Vol fans have to feel pretty good about this class and the fact that it has a group of transfers that make it effectively a top five class. Given where they were last September, this is a major success.
