After two years in an off-field role with Tennessee football, Jeremy Pruitt named Joe Osovet tight ends coach. Here’s why that’s good for the Volunteers.

One of Jeremy Pruitt’s staff changes this offseason involved promoting somebody from an off-field role for Tennessee football. Joe Osovet is moving to tight ends coach, replacing Brian Niedermeyer as he moves over to the defensive side of the ball.

Of all the hires Pruitt made, there are things that make Osovet the most unique. After all, his SEC ties aren’t as deep as most, and he’s the only guy in this round of staff changes Pruitt promoted from an off-field position.

Even with that, though, there are plenty of things that make him similar to other hires. Osovet isn’t the only Tennessee football assistant to have held an off-field position with the school. And he is a fresh face in many ways, similar to a couple of the other recent hires.

Just like all of Pruitt’s additions this offseason outside of Jay Graham, Osovet comes with a bit of uncertainty. However, there are tons of reasons to be excited about him that go beyond the traditional ways of being excited about an SEC coach.

In this post, we’re going to break down all of those reasons to be thrilled about the promotion of Osovet. As we have done with all the previous assistant hires, we will look at his track record everywhere he’s been and what he brings to the table.

What stands out is the fact that despite how unique he is, the positives surrounding this move have many similarities to the positives surrounding other moves Pruitt made. Maybe that’s why Pruitt made the promotion, although it always seemed evident Osovet would eventually receive one after Pruitt reached out to him two years ago.

Let’s go ahead and break down why it was inevitable. Osovet has a resume that really stands out. These are the five reasons for encouragement over Tennessee football hiring him to be the Vols’ new tight ends coach.
