3. Expanding the recruiting map

We mentioned the fact that Jimmy Brumbaugh’s one year at East Mississippi Community College, better known as Last Chance U, gives Tennessee football an amazing pipeline into the junior college ranks. Well, Joe Osovet gives them an even greater connection on that front, and he can really help the Vols expand their recruiting map as a result.

Osovet has been a junior college coach for 20 years, and he was a junior college head coach for five years. Like all programs, UT is always going to need a pipeline into the junior college ranks. You never know when you’re going to need immediate help, and Jeremy Pruitt is almost certainly aware of that, even if they didn’t take such recruits this year.

With such deep connections, Osovet gives the Vols a major leg up over other competitive programs on that front. In addition to his junior college ties, though, Osovet helps Rocky Top go even more national.  His experience coaching is largely in New York, and he is from the area as well. That means that Pruitt and co. now have a direct connection into the Northeast.

Taking that into account, the Vols have a guy who gives them a strong pipeline into the junior college ranks and a strong connection into a new region of recruiting. Sure, that area isn’t as deep in high school football talent, but it still can produce top-notch guys. As a result, Osovet is a big pickup in numerous ways.
