In a game with NCAA Tournament bubble implications, Tennessee basketball visits South Carolina. Here is our preview for the Volunteers and Gamecocks.

After winning two of three games, Tennessee basketball travels to Columbia, S.C. to face the South Carolina Gamecocks in a rematch of an earlier SEC meeting. The Vols won that won at home by just one point.

This is a game between two teams in the 60-70 RPI range, meaning it has huge NCAA Tournament implications. The winner is likely to get into the bubble conversation, while the loser is likely to fall out of the conversation altogether, at least for now.

At 14-10 and 6-5 in the SEC, Rocky Top is one game behind the Gamecocks on both fronts, as they are 15-9 and 7-4 in league play. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s Saturday night road matchup.

Josiah-Jordan James, who has missed the last four games due to injury, was cleared to play for this game. He has been day-to-day for the past week, and his return, if it does actually happen, could be a huge boost for Rick Barnes’ team. Without him, UT is 2-2, but they have won two of their past three games.

South Carolina, meanwhile, is on a two-game winning streak after blowing out the Texas A&M Aggies at home and then the Georgia Bulldogs on the road. Frank Martin has not gotten this team back to the Big Dance since their Final Four run in 2017, so this game will be huge for him trying to get the program back on track.

Regardless of what happens in this game, Tennessee basketball has a brutal road ahead. They get a breather with the Vanderbilt Commodores at home, but then they have to face the Auburn Tigers twice, the Kentucky Wildcats and Arkansas Razorbacks both on the road, and then the Florida Gators at home.

Simply put, things are about to get really rough for them, making this a big game. They’ve got to score a few wins to stay afloat as their schedule strength improves, and South Carolina is a big opportunity for that.
