After two years as tight ends coach, Tennessee football is moving Brian Niedermeyer to inside linebackers. Here are positives of that for the Volunteers.

One of the surprise moves this offseason for Tennessee football was when Jeremy Pruitt moved Brian Niedermeyer over to inside linebackers coach. An up and coming assistant for the Vols, Niedermeyer is a rising star in the SEC ranks.

The move was to make room for Pruitt’s promotion of Joe Osovet to tight ends coach. Niedermeyer replaces Kevin Sherrer, who served as inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator this past year before moving on to take a job with the New York Giants.

What impact does this switch have? Well, we honestly don’t know yet. What’s clear, though, is Niedermeyer needed to stay on Pruitt’s staff. He has been a superstar assistant, in particular on the recruiting trail, for Tennessee football up to this point.

There are lots of new things he can bring to the table in his role as inside linebackers coach, though. And it actually facilitates numerous positives for Rocky Top as a whole. In this post, we’re going to break down what the most encouraging signs are for UT with this move.

Positives could range from what the move means in terms of a domino effect to what exactly Niedermeyer brings to the table with this switch. However, the point is the positives don’t all have to be specifically about him.

Even with these signs, though, it doesn’t mean everything will work out. After all, Pruitt has undergone a ton of staff changes in just two years on the job, so lots of moving parts could affect how everything plays out.

But for now, let’s just look at the good parts of this move for Vol Nation. Big Orange Country needs to know why to be excited about Pruitt’s decision. These are the five encouraging signs of Brian Niedermeyer moving over to become Tennessee football’s inside linebackers coach.
