Ranking former Vols by most to gain at 2020 NFL Draft Scouting Combine
His frame was listed at 6’5″ 257 pounds in college, and he was once a four-star junior college recruit due to his receiving abilities. A receiving tight end with that size makes Dominick Wood-Anderson a great tight end prospect for the pros, and the NFL Draft combine is a great chance for him to showcase his abilities.
However, during his time with Tennessee football, he did not put up the numbers that were fully expected of him. He only had 408 receiving yards and three touchdowns in two full years. That’s not indicative of a guy with his hype as a receiving tight end, and it means he actually has a lot to prove at the combine this week.
Now, Jim Chaney did try to rely on him significantly early in the year, but lots of defenses sold out to stop him, and there were numerous quarterback issues as well. He could make those cases. It doesn’t change the fact, though, that it means he has a lot to prove this week.
If Wood-Anderson’s physical abilities are not able to match up, he doesn’t have enough of the production in college to be able to sell himself as a draft pick at tight end this year. That’s why he needs to blow people away with his physical performances this week, and that will only keep his draft stock above water. So his combine is about what he can lose, not gain.
