New Volunteers defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator Jimmy Brumbaugh is a big hire for Tennessee football. He has potential concerns though.

We’re down to our final slideshow analyzing the good and bad of every new Tennessee football staff member. Jimmy Brumbaugh replaces Tracy Rocker as the Vols’ defensive line coach and Kevin Sherrer as their co-defensive coordinator entering Jeremy Pruitt’s third season on Rocky Top.

A former Auburn Tigers player in the late 1990s, Brumbaugh has lots of SEC connections. He most recently was with the Colorado Buffaloes, and he brings lots of excitement and promise to Rocky Top as an up and coming coach.

However, just like every staff member, there are drawbacks with Brumbaugh. He’s not a perfect hire by any stretch of the imagination, and there are very valid reasons for concern over Tennessee football bringing him on board.

In this post, we’re going to take a look at those potential concerns. As with all the other former coaches, we say potential because these drawbacks may not amount to anything. But if Brumbaugh ends up not working out, these are the issues that could be why that happened.

Now, as we have done with all the coaches, we have to qualify this by saying this doesn’t mean we are betting against Brumbaugh. Jeremy Pruitt’s track record suggests we should bet on all the new coaches given how successful his staff moves have been in the past.

All we are doing here is bringing up the things everybody should be on the lookout for. Every coach has them, and that does not define them. After all, every coach has positives too. So this is a warning list that we have done with all of them, just as we did a list of positives for all of them.

How does Brumbaugh fit into this category? What are things everybody should be aware of when it comes to him? Let’s break all of that down here. These are the five potential concerns over Tennessee football hiring Jimmy Brumbaugh to coach the Vols’ defensive linemen and serve as their co-defensive coordinator.
