A look ahead to this week’s games by Rick Barnes for the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team leads our Volunteers news for Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020.

February is drawing to a close, and the Tennessee Vols are in a rare moment where tons of sports are happening at once in the regular season. That includes men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, baseball and softball.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with the men’s basketball program and what’s in store for them coming off a tough loss over the weekend. However, it also involves a couple of previews and a recap.

The previews are on the diamond with two programs appearing to be headed in opposite directions, with the baseball program on a dramatic rise, while our recap is a women’s golf tournament. Let’ start with basketball.

Rick Barnes recaps Auburn, previews Arkansas – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

After their loss to the No. 13 Auburn Tigers on the road over the weekend, the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team is now 15-12 and 7-7 in the SEC. Up next for them is a trip to the Arkansas Razorbacks and then a home game against the Auburn Tigers. Rick Barnes met with the media Monday about the week. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“I’ll tell you this, and I told Clark Kellogg this, if we had this group from the very beginning and no injuries had happened, we’d be way ahead, but that’s not the way it’s played out this year. Santi has been here (for 14 game) and Josiah has been in and out. We haven’t had any consistency there, so I know that has a little bit to do with it. Even though you get frustrated with it, you don’t want to admit it.”"

Baseball Vols begin midweek games – UTSports

Coming off a Round Rock Classic performance that got them to 7-0 and back in two of three major polls, No. 19 in the Perfect Game poll and No. 24 in the D1Baseball poll,  Tennessee Vols baseball begins a 10-game home stand with games against the Northern Kentucky Norse Tuesday and UNC Asheville Bulldogs Wednesday. Both games start at 4:30 p.m. ET.

"Both of this week’s midweek games will be streamed online via WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app. Wednesday’s game versus Asheville will be the first full SEC Network + broadcast of the season."

Softball home opener moved to Tuesday – WVLT

In the midst of a four-game losing streak after a horrendous performance in the Tampa Tournament, the Tennessee Lady Vols return to Knoxville for their home opener. They will host the UT Martin Skyhawks on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.

"The outing, originally slated for Wednesday evening, was rescheduled due to expected rain in the midweek forecast. The game will be streamed live on the SEC Network +, while Brian Rice will call the action on UTsports.com."

Women’s golf finishes No. 5 at Westbrook Invitational – BirdieFire

As a whole they shot 851, or 13-under par.
