Postgame quotes from Rick Barnes on the Tennessee Vols basketball loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks leads our Volunteers news for Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020.

With three days left in February, men’s and women’s basketball news continues to get more concerning for the Tennessee Vols. A game on Wednesday, meanwhile, didn’t do anything to help that situation.

Our morning update on Rocky Top begins with a continuing recap of that game, as it involves what Rick Barnes said. Meanwhile, we have to preview today’s women’s basketball game, one that is crucial for UT to just stay afloat.

For better news related to Big Orange Country, we do have an individual recognition to cover along with a baseball recap. So things are spread out in a decent way. Let’s start, though, with the men’s basketball news.

Rick Barnes discusses UT loss at Arkansas – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

Coming off a tough loss at the Auburn Tigers, the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team fell apart at the Arkansas Razorbacks Wednesday night. With the 86-69 loss, they fell to 15-13 and 7-8 in the SEC, and Arkansas improved to 18-10 and 6-9 in the SEC. Up next for UT is a home game Saturday against the Florida Gators. Here’s a bit of what Rick Barnes said about this loss.

"“Early in the game, we are an inside-out team, we put the ball in there and give them credit for knocking the ball loose some, which they shouldn’t do if we are doing what we need to do. We fought back. In the first half, but then they stretched it back.”"

Women’s basketball hosts Ole Miss – UTSports

With two games left, the Tennessee Lady Vols will honor Kamera Harris and Lou Brown on Senior Night Thursday as they host the Ole Miss Rebels. Kellie Harper’s team ended a five-game losing streak Sunday by beating the Vanderbilt Commodores. At 18-9 and 8-6 in the SEC, UT is still trying to stay afloat in the NCAA Tournament race. Ole Miss is 7-20 and winless in the SEC.

"UT and the Rebels met in Oxford, Miss., on Jan. 9, with the Big Orange cruising to an 84-28 victory in the Pavilion at Ole Miss.  This will mark the 56th contest in a rivalry that began in 1977."

Kamera Harris named to Community Service Team – SECSports.com

One day before she was set to be honored on Senior Night, Tennessee Lady Vols forward Kamera Harris was named to the SEC Women’s Basketball Community Service Team. Harris plays her final home game for UT against the Ole Miss Rebels Thursday.

"Kamera Harris participated in the Adopt-A-Family program, joining with team members to purchase and deliver gifts at Christmas. She also helped serve the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s (SAAC) Community Holiday Meal, providing food to the less fortunate during the holiday season, and she welcomed youngsters to the UT campus for Voloween, a Halloween celebration for kids in UT’s Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex that is organized by SAAC."

Baseball Vols dominate UNC Asheville – Cory Sanning, SI.com

The No. 19 ranked Tennessee Vols baseball team remained undefeated after winning their second midweek game on Wednesday. They moved to 9-0 by beating the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in a 12-1 blowout. Next up for them is a weekend series against the George Washington Colonials.

"Junior Alerick Soularie got the scoring started for the Vols with a solo home run during the second inning that not only got UT on the board first, but opened the flood gates. The preseason All-American had been just 4-for-25 at bat through nine games."
