Tennessee football: Five biggest questions for Vols 2020 spring practice
5. Will there be any position changes?
We ask this every year, but it is important. Jeremy Pruitt spends the spring looking to see if guys can play other positions for Tennessee football. One notable Georgia Bulldogs transfer from last year, Deangelo Gibbs, took a redshirt and will be eligible to go. However, he could potentially play wide receiver or defensive back. The same is true for Jerrod Means.
That’s just among the skill players. What about a guy like Princeton Fant? He has played tight end and running back, and LaTrell Bumphus has played tight end and defensive end. Will Pruitt move them around more? With Jeremy Banks gone, UT played without a power back most of last year. Tee Hodge is a new power back recruit, but will Pruitt try a linebacker there in the spring first?
These are all things worth paying attention to, as they could significantly alter the depth chart and how things play out. Another factor could be guys moving over in a similar unit, such as an offensive tackle moving over to center, a defensive end moving to outside linebacker or a cornerback moving to safety. All of those things could be in play.
Of course, then there are a few new people arriving on campus. That includes the transfers who have already enrolled in Velus Jones Jr. and Miles Jones, both of whom come in as wide receivers, and Cade Mays, who comes in as an offensive linemen. Finally, there are some early enrollees, one of whom is an athlete, so he clearly will have some position revelation. That leads to our next slide.
