Tennessee football: Five biggest questions for Vols 2020 spring practice
1. Which players are healthy?
There were four Tennessee football players out down the stretch of last season due to injury. Emmit Gooden and Baylen Buchanan suffered season-ending injuries before the year started, although Buchanan’s was a medical issue. Jordan Allen could just never get healthy. Trevon Flowers broke his leg on an interception against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
How many of those players will be back this year? Gooden’s return is the one that brings the most hype, and he should be good to go. Buchanan brings the most questions, as we don’t know if he’ll be healthy to go this year. He does bring a certain level of experience to the program, though, if he can get back on the field, so everybody should pay attention to what happens with him.
Flowers should be back by the season, but we don’t know if he’ll be ready to go in the spring, and we have seen very little from Allen in two years. As a result, all of them bring questions. Then there are the players who will miss the spring, Quavaris Crouch and Wanya Morris. Just how hurt are they, and could it have a major impact when the fall arrives?
These are all questions that matter for Tennessee football. A couple of key injuries had everything to do with their slow start in 2019. now, the Vols are deeper and more experienced this year, but it’s still a major question and one they need to address. They have been relatively healthy for two years. Staying that way through the spring will be a big deal.
