With spring practice about to begin, Tennessee football has numerous positions up for grabs. Here are the five key battles surrounding the Volunteers.

Excitement is surrounding Tennessee football as the Vols get set to return a ton of starters and add a top 10 recruiting class to a team that finished 2019 with on a six-game winning streak en route to an 8-5 record and Gator Bowl victory. Those returning starters make for a deep bench heading into spring practice.

However, that does not mean the depth chart is set in stone. In fact, many spots are going to be up for grabs throughout this offseason. There are a couple of minor injuries and numerous key players who have left the program making that possible.

As a result, Jeremy Pruitt still has a lot of things to figure out, and Tennessee football’s third spring practice under his leadership will be key to that. He’ll have plenty of positions to keep an eye on throughout the next month.

In this post, we’re going to break down the most intriguing position battles that could be on display during spring ball. These units made the list because of departures and injuries that opened things up and the number of people who will be competing in them.

Some may be more open, but that will be due to new recruits who won’t arrive until the summer, meaning those positions may not make the list. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t quite a few areas deserving of focus over the next month.

Five positions being led by new coaches also makes things different as well, as those guys may prefer other players on the roster. Taking that into account, this could be much more intriguing than people realize.

So what are the ares that will get interesting over the next month? How much could the spring determine things with them? Let’s break that down here. These are the top five position battles for Tennessee football’s 2020 spring practice.
