In Friday’s quarterfinals of the women’s basketball SEC Tournament, the Tennessee Lady Volunteers will face the Kentucky Wildcats. Here is our preview.

After a strong third quarter to defeat the Missouri Tigers 64-51 on Thursday, the Tennessee Lady Vols are back on the hardwood Friday evening for another SEC Tournament matchup. This one also gives them another chance at a second quality win on the year.

Kellie Harper’s team will face the No. 3 seed Kentucky Wildcats Friday night in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament, which is being held in South Carolina. The winner of that game will face the winner of the game between the LSU Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Rocky Top comes into this game as the No. 6 seed in the tournament and with a 21-9 record after their win over Mizzou. Here is all the information you need for the Tennessee Lady Vols’ matchup Friday night.

UT lost to the Wildcats on the road by four earlier in the year. At 21-7 and 10-6 in the SEC, Kentucky’s record is not so different from the Lady Vols. However, they have played a much tougher schedule, which puts them in the top 20 of both polls and No. 25 in the RPI.

Led by 13th-year head coach Matthew Mitchell, Kentucky begins SEC Tournament play in a bit of a slump, as they suffered a shocking loss at the Vanderbilt Commodores to close the regular season. Still, they would be a second quality win for Vol Nation, whose only quality win to this point was a home victory over the LSU Tigers.

Despite those few quality wins, the Tennessee Lady Vols don’t have any bad losses, and they assured that would be the case with their win Thursday night. By running the table, their NCAA Tournament resume is solid. But a win Friday would go a long way toward building on that. It would also give them an opportunity at a third quality win Saturday. So this is a big game for them.
