4. West Virginia Mountaineers 2018-2019

Tennessee wins 83-66

Jordan Bowden: 15 points; 2 assists; 1 rebound; 1 steal

Lamonte Turner: 23 points; 5 assists; 2 rebounds; 2 steals; 1 block

One week before that win over the Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee basketball was clinging to only its second No. 1 ranking in school history. The Vols had just survived the Vanderbilt Commodores on the road in overtime earlier in the week thanks to Grant Williams, and winning this SEC/Big 12 challenge matchup would mean two straight weeks at No. 1 for them, a first in school history.

The West Virginia Mountaineers were struggling this year, but given what Vanderbilt almost did, anything was possible, even in Knoxville. Williams once again did his thing, scoring 19 points, and Admiral Schofield had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. But Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bowden made sure to shine as well.

In fact, Turner was the star of the game. He hit eight of 10 shots, including three of five three-point attempts to lead the team with 23 points. Bowden then came off the bench hit six of 12 attempts, scoring 15 points and going two-of-four from three. Together, they combined for 38 points, an impressive number when one of them came off the bench.

Bowden and Turner worked to make sure this game would never be in doubt, and they did it with Schofield and Williams. As a result, when the next Monday rolled around, the Vols sure enough did hold their No. 1 spot for the first time in history.
