Tennessee football: 10 bold predictions for Vols 2020 spring practice
3. Ramel Keyton will stand out at wide receiver.
We’ve mentioned all the names for Tennessee football at wide receiver to replace Marquez Callaway, Jauan Jennings and even Tyler Byrd. The two seniors, Josh Palmer and Brandon Johnson, are in line to stand out and take the mantle from Jennings and Callaway. However, Ramel Keyton is going to emerge as the superstar this spring.
Buried in the depth chart as a freshman last year, Keyton showed just enough promise to prove that he could live up to his four-star billing. The 6’2″ 189-pound talent played in 12 games, and while he only had four receptions for 104 yards, he demonstrated an ability to be an amazing big-play threat for the Vols.
Keyton caught a key 41-yard deep pass to set up a crucial field goal against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He then had a 46-yard reception against the Indiana Hoosiers in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl and two receptions for 60 yards in that game overall. So he was able to provide a preview of what he would be in the future in that final game.
We say that performance wasn’t an anomaly. It was the rule. As a result, Keyton is going to emerge as a rising star in spring ball and become one of the favorite targets for all the quarterbacks. Jim Chaney loves those big play threats at wide receiver, and with Jennings and Callaway gone, Keyton will have more chances to prove his abilities on that front.
