Ranking Tennessee Vols sports worst affected by coronavirus ending season
1. Women’s Swimming and Diving
There’s no debating this one. We already mentioned the fact that the Tennessee Vols Swimming and Diving program was the top overall program that took the biggest hit with the cancellation of COVID-19. However, the women’s side was by far the top program and took the biggest hit, and that’s why we have it No. 1 on this list. It’s actually not even close.
In the final College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America rankings, UT came in at No. 3, the only top five program among all the sports on this list. The only two teams ahead of them were the Stanford Cardinal and Virginia Cavaliers. That alone would make this team easily the one that lost the most on here.
On top of that, though, after being ranked No. 3, UT then went on to dominate SEC Championships, and they came in first place. Then they sent two people to NCAA Championships in the Zone B Diving Championships. So they were on a roll just as this hit, and they had a very legitimate chance to finish as the top program on this list.
Effectively having a national championship caliber season means this program clearly was the top program and the one that suffered the most with the cancellations. Swimming and Diving was on a roll as a whole, but the Lady Vols swimming and diving program took a big hit. It’s easily the most affected program in a negative way by the abrupt end to the season.
