5. At No. 22 Arkansas Razorbacks

Tennessee loses 83-75

Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020

The most notorious part of the Tennessee Lady Vols’ first season under Kellie Harper was that five-game losing streak, all against top 50 RPI teams, blowing their chance to increase their quality win totals. By the time this game came around, the damage from that had already been done, as UT had already lost four of those games.

However, this was still their final chance at a second quality win in the regular season. The No. 22 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks were on a roll, and their aggression got the bet of Harper’s team early. Arkansas consistently controlled the game and built a 12-point lead at the end of the third quarter, extending it to 16 games in the fourth quarter.

Down by 14 with under seven minutes to go, UT mounted a furious comeback, cutting it to six points with under four minutes to go. However, they couldn’t get any closer. A layup by Rae Burrell cut it to six again with over a minute to go, but Arkansas still managed to pull away, assuring that Rocky Top would only have one quality win during the regular season.

In the loss, Burrell led the team with 21 points and nine rebounds. Rennia Davis added 18 points and eight rebounds. The problem, though, was this team had 23 turnovers on the day, which was a consistent problem for them all year. Red-hot shooting by Arkansas also cost them in this game.
