Quality victories were scarce for the 2019-20 Tennessee Lady Vols, but the women’s basketball Volunteers still had memorable games. Here are the top five.

Despite a 21-10 record and 10-6 regular season SEC record under first-year head coach Kellie Harper, the Tennessee Lady Vols didn’t impress too many people. They were on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament when the SEC Tournament came to an end.

It’s very clear why. Of those 21 wins, only one of them was actually against a top 50 RPI team. With just one victory that could be considered a quality victory on the season, Rocky Top did not garner too much respect.

However, it’s impressive that the Tennessee Lady Vols did not lose to anybody outside of the top 50. That means, despite their 1-10 record against quality teams, they went 20-0, running the table against bad teams.

Considering the fact that they had a new head coach and then lost one of their key players, Zaay Green, to a season-ending injury two games into the season, running the table against all the bad teams is actually something to be proud of. In the process, even against lesser talent, they still came away with some thrilling wins.

In this post, we’re going to look back on the Lady Vols’ greatest victories of the season. Despite limited quality wins, some were impressive enough. Also, there were a few road wins and a couple with thrilling finishes that earned their way onto this list.

All of those things could make a win one worth remembering. Obviously, Harper will be looking for more great wins per year in the future, but this was a start given everything she was working with. There were still some accomplishments.

So let’s look back at that first season and see what was thrilling about it for UT, knowing that this is not the standard for the program going forward. These are the Tennessee Lady Vols’ five greatest wins for 2029-2020.
