4. Georgia Bulldogs

Tennessee wins 73-56

Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020

Just four days before that dominant victory over the Florida Gators, the Tennessee Lady Vols secured what would become their first win of the year against an SEC team that finished the season with a winning record. It would also turn into their first win over a team that was able to finish in the top 100 of the RPI rankings.

After a close loss to the Kentucky Wildcats the previous week, UT rebounded with a dominant win over the Ole Miss Rebels, who were horrendous. But this was their chance to prove that they were a legitimate upper-echelon SEC team in Kellie Harper’s first season. At the time, Rocky Top was 12-3, ranked No. 23 and 2-1 in the SEC. Georgia was 10-6 and 1-2 in the SEC.

The Bulldogs had a strong finish to the first quarter and took a 20-19 lead going into the second. However, the Lady Vols took control after that, going into the halftime with a 35-29 lead and with the help of a 9-0 run in the third, they were eventually up 47-34 and in complete control of the game. As a result, they finished with an impressive, dominating 73-56 lead.

Rennia Davis again led the way with 17 points, but Jordan Horston was the star with 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Tamari Key and Lou Brown helped in the post, adding 13 and 12 points respectively, and Rae Burrell added seven points on the bench. So this was a complete showing by this team, and it was a dominant one.
