3. At No. 15 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Tennessee wins 74-63

Monday, Nov. 11, 2019

Obviously, this win turned out to not be impressive at all. After all, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish finished the season 13-18. But given the state of the Tennessee Lady Vols at the time, early in the season under Kellie Harper, and given the status of Notre Dame, it meant something in the moment in terms of building confidence on Rocky Top.

UT was 2-0 and playing its second road game, having survived a near-embarrassment in Harper’s first game at the ETSU Bucs. Notre Dame was also 2-0 and in the top 20, but it was clear they were rebuilding from the program that made two straight national title games, winning one. Still, they were heavy favorites in this game.

At the time, news had just broke that Zaay Green would be out for the year. It didn’t matter. Tennessee dominated this game from the start, using red-hot three-point shooting to take a 36-28 lead at halftime. In the second half, they took an 18-point lead at time, and every time Notre Dame threatened, the Lady Vols would pull back away.

In the process, this team finished with a dominant 74-63 road win over a team that was, at the time, in the top 25. The story here was Rennia Davis, who hit five-of-nine three-pointers en route to 33 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Horston also had a breakout game with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and even four steals. Tamari Key added 11 points and three blocks.
