Keyen Green joining women’s basketball and the Tennessee Vols eyeing a Mississippi State transfer lead our Volunteers news for Thursday, April 9, 2020.

Transfers are the story of the day for the Tennessee Vols. While everything is still shut down due to coronavirus, different programs and their coaches continue to make tons of moves on the recruiting trail to add more talent.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with football and women’s basketball going after transfers. The football program is currently targeting a specific transfer, and the women’s basketball program picked one up.

Honors in Swimming and Diving are also a big part of today’s news, so we have some recaps of this past season, which ended prematurely, to bring you as well. Let’s start with all the transfer news that hit the wire Wednesday.

Football chasing Mississippi State transfer – Chris Hummer, GoVols247

Mississippi State Bulldogs 6’4″ 315-pound defensive tackle Fabien Lovett, who transferred out after Mike Leach’s tweet that drew controversy, is being targeted by many top programs. The Tennessee Vols are one of those programs, and they could honestly use the Olive Branch, Miss. native, as he will be a sophomore in 2020, and there are six seniors in the defensive line rotation.

"Lovett played in 11 games as a redshirt freshman last season at Mississippi State. He finished the year with 19 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. He came on strong later in the year, posting at least half a tackle for loss in each of the Bulldogs’ final three games."

Keyen Green transfers to Lady Vols – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com

Kellie Harper continues to add length to her program. After losing two elite transfer guards last week, the Tennessee Lady Vols picked up a top transfer forward on Wednesday. Graduate transfer 6’1″ forward Keyen Green of the Liberty Flames announced on her Instagram page that she would play her final season on Rocky Top, joining an already very tall team.

"Green earned first-team all-Atlantic Sun Conference honors last season as she led the Flames with 231 rebounds, including 120 offensive boards. She also led Liberty in blocked shots with 23 and shot 59 percent from the field after missing the 2018-19 season while recovering from ankle surgery."

Swimming and Diving places 26 on All-America list – CSCAA.org

Despite the season ending prematurely due to COVID-19, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America still listed all of its All-Americans for the year on Wednesday. The Tennessee Vols had 26 people make the list, including 15 from the women’s program, which won the SEC Championship this past year.

"This isn’t the first time the association adjusted All-America criteria. The first CSCAA All-America team was published in 1924, thirteen years before the first men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship. The first women’s All-America team was published in 1975, seven years prior to the first NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship."
