He never really was able to become the major receiving threat he was recruited to be for Tennessee football. However, Dominick Wood-Anderson was still very important for the Vols, as he became a very solid blocking tight end and was often a decoy that allowed guys like Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway to be so effective.
Simply put, his 268 receiving yards and one touchdown are not why we have him down here on the list. The real story, even if he will still be missed, is because of the way Jeremy Pruitt has been able to recruit at the tight end spot. He has built up enough depth there to the point that he’s bound to have options to replace Wood-Anderson.
Austin Pope is the main guy in line to take his spot. Princeton Fant is another notable name, though, and Jordan Allen adds competition by converting there. Then you have the young guys, including Jacob Warren, Sean Brown and Jackson Lowe. All of those guys were highly touted tight ends on the recruiting trail, so one of them is bound to work out.
Wood-Anderson may still end up being a great NFL player who just didn’t have the chance to leap off the screen in college. But the Vols just have too many other guys behind him for anybody to think that they will have issues at the position next year.
