. . Atlanta Falcons. 3. team. 44.

It’s pretty clear that the Atlanta Falcons need defensive improvements across the board. Among those needs, two of the top three are edge rusher and linebacker, two position that this former Tennessee football linebacker can play. Daniel Bituli could bring some speed to the outside, which would be a big deal, but he can fit into any position on the edge or at inside linebacker.

Anyway, the Falcons’ need for both makes them a great landing spot for Bituli in the NFL Draft. Although it’s a while back, everybody who watched them blow that 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl knows that if they had a solid outside rusher who wasn’t completely lifeless in the fourth quarter, they maybe could have slowed Tom Brady’s momentum.

On top of that, Dan Quinn is a veteran head coach now, and his experience is in defense. He also worked under Will Muschamp with the Florida Gators and then built the Legion of Boom into a Super Bowl team, so he’s familiar with the college game, particularly the SEC, and finding unheralded guys to turn into stars. Bituli fits both categories.

Being in Atlanta, Quinn probably got a first-hand look at Bituli’s play right up the road in Knoxville as well. Taking all of that into account, there’s no reason to believe that he wouldn’t have a great chance to succeed in Atlanta, and as a guy from the state, it would also work since he would be close to home at that point.
