Tennessee football in 2020 NFL Draft: Ranking eight Vols as pro prospects
Although he wasn’t Tennessee football’s top receiver, Marquez Callaway still proved more than enough as the No. 2 guy and at the combine to show he belongs on a pro team. When you factor everything he did in college with his physical attributes and the multiple roles he could play, he deserves to go somewhere in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Callaway finished 2019 second on the team in all major receiving categories. He had 30 receptions for 635 yards and six touchdowns. In addition to that, though, he had had a punt returned for a touchdown, and he had three of those throughout his career. All of this translates to something we knew to be true about Callaway: The guy is great with the ball in his hands.
He may not be the most physically imposing receiver, but Callaway has great hands and is very shifty when he has the ball. Add in great vision, no history of health issues, and the fact that he could be selected as a receiver or a return man, he’s got a great shot to succeed at the pro level.
In the combine, Callaway hurt himself to some people by only running a 4.55 40-time. It’s not the 4.4 some people thought he could run. However, the time shows he’s still pretty fast, and he should be able to combine that with his vision and pure abilities as a receiver to be very effective in the pros.
