Tennessee football: Vols WR Marquez Callaway’s five best NFL Draft landing spots
With Stefon Diggs gone, the Minnesota Vikings will likely be looking at a few big receivers in the NFL Draft. If they are looking for anybody who has the profile of Diggs, they want a guy who can play wideout but is more of a speed guy than a size guy. Oh, and they also want a big-play guy who can make the spectacular touchdown grab for all the highlights.
Well, Marquez Callaway fits that profile. At 6’2″, he has a couple of more inches than Diggs, and his 40-time takes a hit as a result. It’s almost a second longer than Diggs’ was at the combine. However, Minnesota will probably be giving different types of receivers a chance, and Callaway has proven himself as a playmaker and very talented with the ball in open space, which Diggs was.
Don’t forget, Jauan Jennings wasn’t the only receiver for Tennessee football to catch a Hail Mary touchdown pass last year. Callaway caught one against the Kentucky Wildcats as time expired heading into halftime in their 24-7 win back in 2018. Taking that into account, Callaway proved he could leap with the best of them and make plays with the best of them.
Another advantage for Callaway is the Vikings appear to be done with Marcus Sherels for good despite bringing him back at times last year. That means they have an opening for a receiver and a punt returner, and Callaway fits both. The only drawback to going here is he’d be playing for a defensive coach, Mike Zimmer, and an offensive coordinator in Gary Kubiak who values the run.
