Tennessee football: Vols WR Marquez Callaway’s five best NFL Draft landing spots
Just as recently as 2018, the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl with Cordarrelle Patterson as one of their specialists. He played for Tennessee football as the No. 2 wideout the last time Jim Chaney was on Rocky Top, back in 2012, and was valued for his ability to make plays in open space once the ball was already in his hands.
Callaway, like Patterson was a return specialist for the Vols in addition to being the No. 2 wideout. He didn’t have Patterson’s shiftiness, but he was still a valuable asset, and a player like him is just what they were missing last year. Clearly, moving on from Tom Brady, means Bill Belichick will have to give a whole new crop of receivers a look.
There’s a very good chance Callaway is one of those guys on his board late in the NFL Draft. He could definitely be a steal, and if he could fit into the system, he could turn into a star there. Belichick may not value size and raw talent as much as everybody else at receiver, but Callaway has other things about his profile that would make him fit the system well.
If he could become a solid route-runner, Callaway would be one of the perfect guys for Belichick to prove he still can continue a passing game in New England without Tom Brady. This is why they belong on the list. Very few teams will be looking at lots of receivers like New England will be this year, and that’s very good for Callaway.
