Anybody who saw the Tennessee Titans play down the stretch of last season knows that they were one pass rusher away from being a Super Bowl caliber team. Then, in the offseason, they let Jurrell Casey go, so they need a big edge rusher who can play on the line and another guy who can help out in a variety of ways as well.
So while Darrell Taylor won’t be the top option for the Titans, he’ll still be a great pick to fit a profile of guys they’re looking for in this year’s NFL Draft. Jon Robinson loves guys who are unheralded and can make plays as well, making Taylor a great candidate for him and Mike Vrabel to fit into their defensive schemes. This team runs a 3-4 and has been doing it for years.
Adding to those things, Taylor will have an advocate in Nashville’s fans. Since he was such a playmaker in a 3-4 up the road for Tennessee football, there will be a minor, albeit visible popularity contest, one that often exists with Vols in Nashville, to push him into a significant role. Simply put, if he ends up with the Titans, they won’t get away with not giving him a fair shake.
Tennessee’s immediate need for edge rushers, the system and its location all make this franchise a great fit for Taylor. And given when they will be looking for a smaller edge rusher, Taylor is likely to be on the board right as they are looking.
