Tennessee football: Ranking Vols by landing spots after 2020 NFL Draft
With the NFL Draft over, numerous former Tennessee football players have found homes in the pros. Here is how those Volunteers rank by landing spots.
Another NFL Draft is in the books, and Tennessee football was at least represented in this one. Two Vols were taken, one of whom was the highest pick from Rocky Top since Derek Barnett was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016.
Overall, however, five landed deals with NFL teams this past weekend, as three were undrafted free agent signings. With the recent success of Shy Tuttle, Emmanuel Moseley and Justin Coleman and other successes like Ramon Foster and Arian Foster, those undrafted free agents have as good a chance as anybody to make it if they landed with the right team.
However, did they land with the right team? What about the two Tennessee football players who were drafted? Are they in the best spots? After all, going to the right system is half the battle when it comes to making it in the pros.
In this post, we’re going to rank the Vols by who had the best landing spots. We talked about the best places for all of them to land before the draft, and we also discussed the ones who had the most pro potential.
Knowing where they have gone, now, though, we can analyze those with the best chance at succeeding. Six players from Rocky Top have earned pro deals as of Wednesday, April 30, when Daniel Bituli finally signed his deal. We’ll add to it if any other players like Riley Lovingood or Tyler Byrd land a deal.
It may not be over for everybody who came out of Rocky Top this past year. Being drafted, signing as an undrafted free agent or even being invited to a camp counts as a landing spot. Our criteria will be the competency and style of play of the organization, the potential of the player and the personnel of the team that landed them.
So who’s got the best chance to succeed at the next level? Let’s go ahead and break it all down here. This is our ranking of former Tennessee football players by landing spots in and after the 2020 NFL Draft.
