Tennessee football: Top 10 Vols with 2021 NFL Draft potential
In terms of talent, Trey Smith top this list. He has been Tennessee football’s best player three years in a row, and in his only two seasons as a full-time starter, he made first-team All-SEC both times. Those two years, he played guard. However, in 2018, he played left tackle, and he was still the Vols’ best blocker.
The only reason Smith is not No. 1 on this list is the blood clots. He had to miss all of the first offseason under Jeremy Pruitt, then he had to miss the end of the 2018 season and all of the second offseason. It appears he has them under control with a medical plan devised for him to play, but NFL scouts are going to be very concerned about that.
Again, this takes into account talent, production and what scouts value. As good as Smith is, his health issues in the past are going to make a few scouts somewhat hesitant. Still, his talent is enough to make him one of the top draft prospects out of Rocky Top.
On the line, Wanya Morris and Darnell Wright won’t yet be eligible. Brandon Kennedy brings even more injury concerns without the proven production. We don’t know if Cade Mays will be eligible to play yet. As a result, Smith is the top prospect up front, and moving to 335 pounds with his 6’6″ frame gives him amazing size as a pro prospect.
