Multiple people praising different parts of the Tennessee Vols football offensive line leads our Volunteers news for Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

COVID-19 still has everything shut down, but there are encouraging signs of sports returning. Obviously, Tennessee Vols fans do not want to miss a football or basketball season that could be very good for them next year.

Part of the football success involves praise for a specific unit, and our morning update on Rocky Top leads with the love that unit is getting. One analyst had praise for a specific player, and another discussed the unit as a whole.

We’re actually sticking with football for all of our coverage today, as our final bit of news involves a UT target going elsewhere. He’s not technically a commitment story, so we are including him in this report. However, let’s start with the positives.

Cade May named top 247Sport transfer – Bud Elliott, 247Sport

Although he did not receiver a five-star rating from the site, Tennessee Vols football offensive lineman Cade Mays top the list of 247Sports transfer rankings. Mays was once a five-star recruit and transferred from the Georgia Bulldogs after playing with them for two years. His brother, Cooper, just committed to UT, and their father, Kevin, also played there.

"Offensive lineman Cade Mays had an elite rating out of high school, lived up to the billing at Georgia, and should instantly be one of, if not the best, offensive linemen at Tennessee. Quarterback JT Daniels lost his job due to injury at USC but is highly coveted by many college teams and still has significant upside."

Analyst: Vols could have SEC’s best OL – Sports Talk, WNML

SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic said on 99.1’s The Sports Animal Monday that Tennessee football could have the best offensive line in the SEC with the addition of Cade Mays, the sixth year of eligibility for Brandon Kennedy, Trey Smith’s return and the development of Wanya Morris and Darnell Wright. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“It’s probably going to take a little while for them to gel. But they’re going to be there. I have Tennessee and Kentucky probably has a coin flip, depending on who is available, going in as the No. 2 offensive line in the SEC this year behind Alabama. But Tennessee absolutely not only has a chance to be No. 2, but they have a chance to be No. 1 because they have Trey Smith.”"

Five-star Vols target enrolls at TCUTom VanHaaren, ESPN.com

Over three months after National Signing Day, a Tennessee football target for its 2020 recruiting class enrolled with the TCU Horned Frogs. Five-star running back Zachary Evans initially committed to the Georgia Bulldogs and then asked out of his letter of intent, which extended his signing deadline. Then coronavirus happened. That’s why there was a delay.

"Evans, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound running back from North Shore High School in Houston, went back-and-forth with his decision during his recruitment, signing with Georgia in the December early signing period. He was scheduled to announce that decision on Jan. 2 at the Under Armour All-America Game, but did not make his announcement."
