Tennessee Vols morning report: Peerless Price on Finebaum, coronavirus update
Former Tennessee Vols football wide receiver Peerless Price on Paul Finebaum and NCAA coronavirus news lead our Volunteers updates for Monday, May 18, 2020.
Monday is here, and with it comes more Tennessee Vols news despite sports not being in play. We covered a few things that hit UT over the weekend, but there are plenty of other stories to get to that we left out.
Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with a legend in the football program speaking about its current state. We also have more interesting news related to the NCAA’s potential way of handling COVID-19 if the issue continues.
We also have transfer news related to the football program. However, that deals with somebody not currently in the program right now, so we’ll put that last on this list. Let’s start with the other major pieces of news first.
NCAA addresses potential fan-free football – Dan Harralson, VolsWire.com
There is an NCAA coronavirus advisory panel to discuss handling of the pandemic. Recently talk of potential fan-free college football has arisen. A member of that panel, Amesh Adalja, M.D., Senior Scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security, spoke with VolsWire about the situation. Here’s a bit of what Adalja said.
"“You really have to look at the equation of the fact that there is likely to be an exposure when you have that many people together. If that is the case, there is going to contact tracing. The number of people would be overwhelming for a health department to track down and do all of the contact tracing. It is labor intensive.”"
Peerless Price address UT on Paul Finebaum – ESPN.com
Arguably the greatest Tennessee Vols football wide receiver in history went on The Paul Finebaum Show on Friday to discuss the state of the program under Jeremy Pruitt. Price, who just graduated was the go-to receiver on the 1998 national championship team. Here’s a bit of what he said on the show about Pruitt.
"I think he has the right attitude, the right mindset and he’s been a part of championship teams previously before he came to Tennessee. We’re headed in the right direction. I think we have the right people in place."
Jerrod Means’ transfer destination revealed – Patrick Brown, GoVols247
After one year with Tennessee football, Jerrod Means has revealed where he will transfer. Once a three-star wideout in the 2019 class, Means revealed on his Twitter account that will join the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Last year, Means spent time working at receiver and defensive back, but he never saw action on the field.
"Means is the latest Tennessee transfer to find a new program, following offensive linemen Ryan Johnson (Georgia Tech) and Marcus Tatum (UCF) and linebackers Will Ignont (Western Kentucky) and Shanon Reid (Illinois State). Several other players, including wide receivers Jordan Murphy and Jacquez Jones, defensive back Terrell Bailey and punter Joe Doyle, remain without new programs after entering the transfer portal either during the season or just after."
