Former Tennessee Vols players lead our May 22, 2020 Volunteers news.

Happy Friday. Heading into Memorial Day weekend, the Tennessee Vols have plenty of things happening with the program right now, even as the coronavirus pandemic still has lots of things shut down. However, with the NCAA slowly set to return to normalcy starting June 1, news could begin to pick back up.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with another former player being inducted to a local hall of fame. News of different inductees has been leaking throughout the week. We also have a story surrounding a former basketball player who is currently in the NBA and how he is handling the quarantine situation.

Finally, we have recognition for individuals in the women’s golf program to cover. So there is plenty of news with current and former athletes. Let’s start, though, by covering the former athletes and what is happening with them.

Clark Duncan to be inducted into Greater Knoxville HoF – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com

A member of Johnny Majors’ first recruiting class in 1977, former Tennessee Vols football player Clark Duncan is set to be inducted into the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. Duncan started for four years in the UT secondary, earning freshman All-American honors in 1977. He then became a high school coach, starting as an assistant at Fulton High School.

"After his time in North Knoxville, Duncan took over as head coach at Powell High School where he remained for 17 years. Duncan, who was also Fulton’s head softball coach, served as an assistant softball coach with the Lady Panthers. Duncan left Powell to become the athletic director at South-Doyle High School. He later became head football coach for the Cherokees."

Grant Williams quarantining with Kemba Walker – Nicole Yang, Boston.com

Boston Celtics rookie forward and former Tennessee Vols men’s basketball All-American Grant Williams have been quarantining together in Walker’s home in Charlotte. Williams grew up in that city, and Walker played there for eight years with the Bobcats. As a result, it makes sense that they would quarantine as roommates.

"The pair have been making use of Walker’s outdoor basketball court, getting shots up, rebounding for one another, and working on ball-handling drills. They haven’t played any one-on-one in order to limit their risk of injury and amount of contact."

Golf sisters earn All-SEC honors – SECSports

Freshman Lady Vols golfer Nicole Whiston earned second-team and freshman All-SEC honors for 2020, becoming just the third Lady Vol award to earn at least both. Meanwhile, her sister, junior Waverly Whiston, earned a spot on the SEC’s All-Community Service team. These honors came despite the shortened season.

"The Southeastern Conference on Thursday announced its annual Women’s Golf Awards, which were voted on by the league’s 14 head coaches."
