The Tennessee Vols coach on a Mobile, Ala. show leads our May 29, 2020 Volunteers news.

Happy Friday. More and more states and college programs continue to develop plans to make sure the college football season happens in 2020, and that continues to be good news for all Tennessee Vols fans.

Our morning update on Rocky Top actually leads with a preview for the 2020 football season involving an organization in Mobile, Ala. UT was involved in that preview on Thursday in an intriguing way, so we’ll have plenty to cover on that front.

In addition to that, we also have an update on the women’s basketball schedule along with recognition for multiple athletes on the community service front. So there is plenty of news to cover heading into the final weekend of May. Let’s start with the football preview.

A 90-minute virtual football preview by L’Arche Mobile in Mobile, Ala. Thursday night featured 16 guests, including 10 coaches, nine of whom are head coaches and five of whom are SEC head coaches. Jeremy Pruitt was among those guests. Here’s a bit of what he said about approaching his third season as head coach of the Tennessee Vols program.

"“We ended last year winning seven out of our last eight games. We had a great offseason, got a chance to practice two times, our kids are excited, we have lots of returning football players, and, you know, we’re looking forward to this opportunity.”"

Lady Vols to face West Virginia in 2020-2021 – SECSports.com

Coming off a 21-10 season and 10-6 SEC record, the Tennessee women’s basketball team will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in the 2020 SEC vs. Big 12 challenge. UT will face WVU in Morgantown, W. Va. After going 17-12 and 7-11 in the Big 12 in 2019-2020, WVU will be looking to end its three-year NCAA Tournament drought, and returning four starters will help.

"Ten teams from the SEC participates while every team from the Big 12 takes part in the Challenge each season. The format features five home games on campus sites for each conference per year."

Two Vols earn SEC Community Service Awards – UTSports

Volleyball and swimming and diving seniors Alyssa Andreno and Nathan Murray represented the Tennessee Vols as 2019-20 Brad Davis Community Service Award Winners Thursday. The SEC recognizes one male and one female from all 14 programs in the conference to win the award.

"As winners of the award, Andreno and Murray will receive a $5,000 post-graduate scholarship provided by the SEC. Being Tennessee’s school award winners, both Andreno and Murray are nominees for the Male and Female Brad Davis Community Service Leaders of the Year award. The leaders of the year award will be announced next week, with each leader receiving a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship from the SEC."
