These are the Tennessee football Volunteers’ best victories with Johnny Majors as head coach.

Note: This is part of a series of posts remembering Johnny Majors and all that he accomplished for Tennessee football as a player and a coach. 

The late Johnny Majors goes down in history as the man who helped restore Tennessee football back to national prominence, particularly in the modern era. His efforts allowed the Vols to reach new heights in the 1990s, culminating with them winning the national championship in 1998 under head coach Phillip Fulmer.

Although the rebuild was a long, difficult process, it was clearly worth it. Part of that rebuild, though, included numerous memorable wins that helped define the trajectory of the Vols during those moments in history.

After they did arrive under Majors, they continued to score epic victories, and many have gone down among the greatest in Tennessee football history. You can’t tell the story of Rocky Top without telling the story of these games.

In this post, we’re going to rank those memorable wins by the Vols during Majors’ tenure. Our criteria for this is pretty simple. It just breaks down how memorable a win was. Factors include how great a team was, the magnitude of the game itself and how thrilling the game was.

Taking all of this into account, this will be a fond trip down Memory Lane for many people following the program during this time and many others who know about the significance of the program. It will especially be a great service to the memory of Majors. Lots of games during this era were simply unforgettable.

Throughout looking at this list, you’ll see memorable rivalry wins, bowl wins, epic comebacks, incredible upsets and dominant individual performances. All of these moments are things people remember the best when looking back on UT with Majors as a head coach.
