Summer enrollees for Tennessee Vols football lead our June 8, 2020 Volunteers news.

Amidst all the news gripping the U.S. right now, the SEC is beginning the process to resume plans for football season. That began with huge developments over the weekend with the Tennessee Vols, and more are likely to come.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with the addition of a bunch of members of the football program’s 2020 recruiting class. They have made their way to UT amidst a slew of uncertainties, and that is the first thing to set the tone for the season.

We also have news surrounding a former standout Vol returning to coach a high school program and a staff member joining a pro team. Finally, two VFLs speaking at a graduation ceremony closes out our report for today. But let’s start with the news surrounding the 2020 recruiting class.

Summer enrollees arrive on campus – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Over the weekend, the members of the Tennessee Vols football 2020 recruiting class who were not early enrollees arrived on campus. They are allowed to take part in workouts beginning today. There were 19 summer enrollees overall, following the four early enrollees who arrived on campus in the winter.

"Tennessee’s summer enrollees started to arrive in town on Friday, when four-star defensive end/linebacker Morven Joseph, a Top247 prospect from Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Fla., tweeted that he was already in Knoxville. The majority of the Vols’ remaining signees made it to town Saturday, and several of them made posts on their social-media accounts after joining their new teammates on campus."

Robert Ayers joins high school football staff – Matthew Ray, SI.com

Former Tennessee football standout defensive end Robert Ayers has returned to Rocky Top to join the Knoxville Catholic High staff. Ayers spent 10 years in the NFL, most notably with the Denver Broncos but also with the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Ayers’ career at Tennessee saw him total 113 tackles, 31.5 for loss, and 9 sacks. As a professional, Ayers played in 120 games totaling 34.5 sacks and 192 total tackles."

After spending five seasons with Tennessee football’s staff, Cameron Clemmons is heading to the NFL. The Mt. Juliet, Tenn. native, who initially joined UT as a graduate assistant, is joining the Las Vegas raiders as an offensive quality control coach.

"During his graduate assistantship at UT, Clemmons took part in the Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship with the New England Patriots in 2017.He played collegiately at Western Kentucky from 2010-14 and was a four-year starter and team captain on the offensive line."

Peyton Manning, Erika Brown featured in 2020 ceremonyUTSports

YouTube’s “Dear Class of 2020” included appearances from two Tennessee Vols on Sunday: 2020 swimming and diving graduate Erika Brown and football legend Peyton Manning. The virtual ceremony lasted over four and a half hours and included numerous celebrity appearances.
