player. Pick Analysis. Freshman. 6. 839. Scouting Report. Offensive Lineman. James Robinson

We’re sticking with three-star offensive guards who weren’t early enrollees. If Tennessee football’s offensive line is too loaded for Javontez Spraggins, it’ll also be too loaded for James Robinson. After all, the Montgomery, Ala. prospect has the same profile, meaning he’s not going to see the field at all up front in 2020. A redshirt is the only logical choice.

Now, there are two other commitments to the 2020 class up front we should address. Four-star Cooper Mays is an early enrollee, and there is open competition for the backup center spot, which is his primary position. Two-star Will Albright is coming in as a long snapper, where there is a position of need after the departure of Riley Lovingood.

As a result, both of those players aren’t sure needs to redshirt yet. They could see the field. That can’t be said for Spraggins and Robinson. The one reason we have Robinson ahead of Spraggins is his size. Even as a recruit, Robinson was listed at 6’4″ 330 pounds. We know that Jeremy Pruitt  values size with his offensive linemen, and Robinson certainly provides that.

Taking that into account, if one of these people does become an unlikely player to see the field, Robinson will be that guy. However, this is unlikely to be the case for either of these players, which is why they both belong on our list of Vols who should take a redshirt. Offensive line just has too many bodies entering the season, and three-star freshman guards won’t be playing.
